THINGVELLIR NATIONAL PARK

Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Iceland, is a realm of unparalleled natural and historical marvels. Nestled within the tectonic rift between the North American and Eurasian plates, the park's geological significance is immediately apparent.

The Almannagjá fissure, a dramatic scar in the Earth's crust, showcases the ongoing separation of these tectonic giants, inviting visitors to witness the raw forces that shape our planet.

One of the park's standout features is the crystal-clear Silfra Fissure, where the waters of

Lake Thingvallavatn meet the glacial meltwater. Snorkelling or diving in the Silfra's chilly waters offers a unique experience, allowing you to glide between the tectonic plates while beholding underwater vistas of remarkable clarity.

Thingvellir's natural beauty is further amplified by its serene landscapes

Hypnotic waterfalls, like Öxarárfoss, tumble gracefully through the rugged terrain. The park's rift valley and surrounding lava fields create an otherworldly atmosphere, simultaneously giving a sense of being on the threshold of two geological realms.

Hiking trails like the Flosagjá Trail and the Öxarárfoss Trail grant access to these wonders, with viewpoints that offer a remarkable overview of the park's splendour. The breathtaking natural beauty of the surroundings makes Thingvellir a top recommendation for our romantic Iceland tour packages from India.

Thingvellir is historically significant

Beyond its geological wonder, Thingvellir is historically significant as the site of Iceland's ancient Alþingi, the oldest ongoing parliament. The Law Rock, where laws were recited and disputes were settled, is a testament to the island nation's democratic roots. The assembly's historical aura is palpable as you walk through the assembly fields, imagining the gatherings that took place there over a millennium ago.

The combination of geological grandeur, historical resonance, and ethereal landscapes makes Thingvellir National Park a destination that awakens a deep appreciation for the Earth's dynamic history and the cultural legacy it has shaped.

SOLHEIMAJOKULL GLACIER

Visiting Solheimajokull Glacier in Iceland is a mesmerising encounter with the raw power of nature's icy marvels. As an outlet glacier stemming from the larger Myrdalsjokull ice cap, Solheimajokull offers a unique opportunity to witness the dynamic interplay between ice and the elements. The awe-inspiring beauty and easy access to this glacier make it an unmissable spot for our Iceland adventure tour packages from India.

One of the most breathtaking aspects of visiting Solheimajokull is encountering its mesmerising ice formations.

From delicate ice sculptures to massive ice walls, the glacier's textures and shades of blue are a photographer's dream. The ethereal silence enveloping you while walking across the glacier enhances the experience, fostering a sense of wonder and introspection.

Guided glacier tours lead adventurers through the glacier's frozen expanse

Walk amid towering ice formations, deep crevasses, and captivating blue ice caves. The glacier's ever-changing features offer a fascinating glimpse into the world of glacial activity, and guides share insights about the glacier's history, formation, and the effects of climate change.

It's important to note that glacier exploration requires proper safety measures and equipment due to the ever-shifting ice and potentially hazardous conditions. Therefore, joining a guided tour is essential to ensure a safe and informed adventure. The viewing dock offers an incredible vantage point of the glacier, perfect for those who prefer to stay on solid ground.

Visiting Solheimajokull Glacier offers a unique perspective on the world's frozen wonders and serves as a poignant reminder of the delicate balance between nature's beauty and the impacts of climate change. It's a chance to connect with the forces that have shaped our planet while considering our responsibility to protect and preserve these remarkable landscapes for future generations.

THE BEST TIME TO VISIT ICELAND FROM INDIA

While Iceland's climate is cold throughout the year, the best time to visit Iceland from India is during the summer months of June to August, which stand out as the most popular time for visitors. For travellers from India looking to explore the enchanting landscapes of Iceland, the best time to visit largely depends on the experiences they seek.

During the Icelandic summer, the weather is relatively mild, with temperatures ranging from 10 to 15 degrees Celsius on average. The days are long because of the midnight sun, a unique phenomenon where the sun remains visible even at midnight. Experience the magic of this time with one of our summer Iceland tour packages from India.

Summer is an ideal time for activities like hiking and camping

The extended daylight hours allow for exploring the country's stunning natural wonders - waterfalls, geysers, glaciers, national parks - at a comfortable pace. The landscapes burst into life with vibrant greenery, making it a photographer's paradise.

However, the choice of timing also hinges on the activities that travellers wish to experience. For those intrigued by the mystical Northern Lights, the winter months from September to March are recommended. The long nights and crisp air are perfect conditions for witnessing this natural light display. This is the main attraction for our winter Iceland tour packages from India.

While the temperatures drop considerably, the allure of dancing auroras in the night sky makes it a captivating trade-off

Iceland's northern coast gives visitors the best chance of viewing this cosmic wonder. Be spellbound by this celestial display with one of our Northern Lights tour packages from India to Iceland.

Off-and-shoulder seasons, such as spring (April to May) and fall (September to October), have their own allure. These periods offer the best deals on accommodations and tours and fewer crowds, allowing for a more intimate experience of Iceland's wonders. During the off-season, visitors can still explore many attractions, although snow might make some highland roads and hiking trails inaccessible.

It's essential to remember that Iceland's weather can be unpredictable regardless of the season, so packing versatile clothing layers is wise. Additionally, due to its popularity, accommodations and tours can be booked up quickly during peak tourist months, so planning ahead is advisable.

The best time to visit Iceland from India hinges on personal preferences and desired activities

The summer months offer long days and pleasant weather for outdoor adventures and exploration, while the winter promises the mystical spectacle of the Northern Lights. Off and shoulder seasons provide the best deals and a more serene experience. Regardless of the chosen time, Iceland's natural wonders, from glaciers to geothermal springs, promise a truly unforgettable journey.

HOW MUCH WILL A TOUR OF ICELAND FROM INDIA COST?

At Flying Squirrel Holidays, we pride ourselves on being able to provide affordable Iceland tour packages from India. It is crucial to remember that we only recommend taking affordable packages to travellers who maintain a very healthy lifestyle and also are experienced with similar adverse conditions.

Our most affordable Iceland tour packages from India start from Rs. 1,00,000 per person. These involve a lot of camping and possessing an international driver's licence. Our budget Iceland tour packages from India begin at Rs. 1,60,000 per person. Our Luxury Iceland tour packages from India will start at Rs. 3,20,000 per person.

The cost of visiting Iceland from India can vary significantly due to many factors that influence the overall expenses associated with the trip.

Understanding these factors can help travellers plan their budgets more effectively and make informed decisions about their Icelandic adventure.

Season: The time of year you choose to visit Iceland plays a significant role in determining the cost of your trip. The peak summer months (June to August) are the most popular but tend to be the most expensive due to higher demand for accommodations, tours, and flights. The off-season and shoulder seasons (spring and fall) generally offer better deals and discounts on various travel components.

Flights: Airfare is often one of the most significant expenses when travelling to Iceland. Flight prices can vary based on the time of year, how far in advance you book, and the airline you choose. Flying during off-peak times and being flexible with travel dates can help you find more affordable flight options.

Accommodation: The cost of accommodations in Iceland varies widely based on location, type of lodging (hotels, hostels, guesthouses), and the time of year. Staying in major cities or popular tourist areas tends to be more expensive, while options in rural or less touristy regions can be more budget-friendly.

Activities and Tours: Iceland offers a range of unique experiences, from glacier hikes to Northern Lights tours. The cost of these activities can add up quickly, so it's important to budget accordingly. Shopping around for tour operators and booking in advance can help you find better deals.

Transportation: Renting a car, using public transport, or joining guided tours all come with varying costs. Renting a car can give you flexibility but might be pricier, while guided tours can provide convenience but could also be more expensive.

Currency Exchange: Fluctuations in exchange rates can impact the overall cost of your trip. It's wise to keep an eye on exchange rates and consider exchanging currency before you travel or using a credit card with no foreign transaction fees.

Duration of Stay: The length of your stay in Iceland will naturally affect the overall cost. Longer trips may require more extensive budgets for accommodations, meals, and activities.

Food and Dining: Eating out in Iceland can be expensive, especially in touristy areas. Opting for budget-friendly dining options, cooking meals, and choosing local eateries can help control food costs.

Travel Insurance: While not directly related to Iceland, travel insurance is an essential consideration that impacts your overall trip cost. It's important to account for this in your budget, as it provides financial protection in unforeseen events.

Local Regulations and Fees: Iceland has specific regulations and fees for certain activities, such as visiting national parks and using toll roads. These costs should be factored into your budget as well.

In conclusion, the price of visiting Iceland from India is influenced by various factors, including season, flights, accommodations, activities, transportation, exchange rates, duration of stay, dining, insurance, and local fees. Careful planning, research, and budgeting are crucial for a fulfilling and financially manageable Icelandic experience.

Is Iceland safe for solo travellers?

Iceland is widely considered a safe and welcoming destination for solo travellers. Its low

crime rate, well-maintained infrastructure, and friendly local population contribute to an environment that encourages solo exploration. The country's emphasis on gender equality and progressive social policies also promotes a sense of security.

The well-marked trails, efficient public transportation, and organised tours make navigating the Icelandic landscape convenient and accessible. Solo travellers can venture into the iconic landscapes, from cascading waterfalls to volcanic terrains, with relative ease. Moreover, the prevalence of English as a second language among Icelanders eases communication for non-Icelandic speakers.

In urban areas like Reykjavik, solo travellers will find a vibrant cultural scene, unique cafes, and lively nightlife that can facilitate social interactions and the chance to meet fellow travellers. Overall, Iceland's stunning natural beauty and secure environment make it a fantastic choice for those seeking a rewarding solo travel experience.

Despite its safety, solo travellers should be cautious, especially when venturing into more remote areas. The weather can be unpredictable, and outdoor activities require careful planning and adherence to safety guidelines. Informing someone about travel plans and checking weather forecasts are advisable steps.

Is Iceland safe for hiking?

Iceland offers a remarkable and safe environment for hiking enthusiasts, but caution and preparation are essential due to its unique and occasionally challenging terrain. The country's rugged landscapes, diverse geology, and dramatic natural features offer exhilarating hiking experiences. Trails range from easy walks to more demanding treks, catering to hikers of various skill levels.

While Iceland is generally safe for hiking, the variable weather conditions can pose a challenge. Rapid changes in weather, including sudden rain, wind, and even snow, are common, especially in higher altitudes. It's crucial to be well-equipped with proper hiking gear, including sturdy footwear, waterproof clothing, and navigation tools. Checking weather forecasts before embarking on a hike is advisable.

Hiking solo is possible, but informing someone about your plans and estimated return time is recommended, especially if heading into more remote areas. Joining guided hiking tours can offer both safety and the benefit of local expertise.

Respecting nature and adhering to established trails is vital to minimise environmental impact and maintain safety. The presence of active geothermal areas and potential hazards like loose rocks should be considered while exploring the trails.

Visited Thailand (Bangkok & Phuket) with my family in January 2024 through this tour operating company. They prepared a customised itinerary for us, booked our hotels at both locations and arranged all associated transportation and sight-seeing tours. We had an enjoyable trip. Both hotels were good. The tours and transportation too were good and very well arranged by their local tour partners. They had created an Whatsapp group for close monitoring of our tour, which was very effective and assuring. Many thanks to the Flying Squirrel Holidays team !
