An hour’s drive from Darjeeling takes you to this restored British colonial home of Percy John Cochrane, who was once the magistrate of Kurseong. Situated on the outskirts of the small Himalayan town of Kurseong, this place is surrounded by beautiful tea estates and monasteries that dot the hills. This boutique hotel has retained its old-world heritage and charm with its period-style furniture, antique gramophone, and a mahogany piano. The rooms are beautifully furnished and overlook the tea gardens or the mountains. The dining room serves Anglo-Indian dishes and traditional Indian cuisine. Tumsong Tea Estate

 

Tumsong Tea Estate originally belongs to a German planter JA Wernicke. Later, the Chamong group took it over. The tea estate covers an area of 186 hectares out of which 114 hectares are used for tea plantations. The rest are factory, office, and retreat areas. The tea estate is surrounded by gorgeous mountains and you can also enjoy magnificent views of the Kanchenjunga. Walking down the slope of the tea garden with a river flowing down below is surely a lovely experience. Camping and picnic by the riverside is also a popular activity here. Visiting the tea factory, the tea tasting sessions, cultural programs, camping, picnic, and day excursions to the nearby towns are some of the best experiences you can have here.
