Gir National Park

This is the only place in India to spot the Asiatic Lion. The Gir National Park in Gujarat, with its rugged terrain, has a dry deciduous forest fed by rivers and streams. As you drive through the gently rolling dense wooden landscape, you have a good chance to see the lions, thanks to the Asian Lion Reintroduction Project, an initiative by the Indian Government. The best time to visit the park is from December to April. Gir is also home to leopards and other Asian cats. During this wildlife holiday you could see the Kamleshwar dam which is in the middle of the sanctuary and is home to marsh crocodiles. Other wildlife includes the Chital (spotted dear), Nilgai (blue bull), wild boar, jackals and hyenas. The national park is also home to tribals who live in scattered settlements in the forest area
