Periyar National Park

The Periyar National Park in Kerala is well known for its Tiger Reserve. It has the beautiful Periyar lake at its heart and the whole feeling of this place is one of peace and serenity. From elephants enjoying a water play by the lake to the barking deer and the Cormorants, Kingfishers and the great Malabar Hornbill, the park is also home to arboreal animals like giant squirrel and Nilgiri langur. It stays open all round the year, but the best time to visit is from October to February. You can take a guided tour of the park to spot the elephants and the ever-elusive tigers. Or go for a dawn to dusk hiking and rafting program through some of the richest forest tracts with an armed guide and packed hampers Under the star lit sky you can listen to the cacophony of the crickets, frogs and nocturnal birds, and wait and watch for the big cat to make a move
