OVERVIEW

What we know as Argentina today or the modern-day Argentine Republic was formed only as recently as 1861. The ancient history of Argentina goes back to almost 13,000 years with the first human settlement of the Argentine indigenous tribes.

Over the centuries, Argentinian culture has been shaped by an illustrious history of early settlement, invasion, resettlement and nation-building. Documented history however can be traced back to the early 1500s which also marks the beginning of the Spanish rule in Argentina.

Discover the foodie in you while touring Argentina. Food in Argentina gains a whole new dimension with a wide range of mouthwatering delicacies. Be it the grilled cheese provoleta or the tangy chimichurri, the succulent steaks or melt in the mouth chocolate caramel treat dulce de leche, Argentinean cuisine is sure to tantalise your taste buds.

Take a walk beyond the charming old towns and fantastic natural beauty and you are sure to stumble upon local artists and craftsmen in the Spanish colonial town of Cachi who work with precision to create some handmade wonders like Ilama and alpaca wool ponchos.

Finally, for all the night owls looking to enjoy a happening party scene, the holy triangle of Buenos Aires, Rosario and Cordoba is the place to be. All three cities are dotted with innumerable tango dance bars known as Milongas, regular bars and sports bars for tourists to enjoy some great food and foot-tapping music.

TOP TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, is often referred to as la Reina del Plata, meaning “The Queen of Silver.” Buenos Aires derives the nickname by virtue of being the largest city in the country. The city is known for its vibrant lifestyle and cosmopolitan culture.

Divided into smaller districts known as barrios, Buenos Aires is complete with old colonial Spanish architecture, charming museums, art galleries, gourmet eateries, music and street tango performers. In short, Buenos Aires is the seat of a fashionable and chic Latin American lifestyle.

Iguazu Falls

Situated in the north-eastern part of the country, the magnificent Iguazu falls marks Argentina’s border with Brazil and Paraguay. The falls stretches over 2.7 kms length with a drop over a height of 82 meters and is a combination of about 275 distinct cascades.

The falls is equipped with an excellent network of hiking trails, walking paths and viewing galleries. Visitors can avail any suitable route to get a closer look at this magnificent natural wonder.

The cascading waterfalls with its height and magnitude is sure to leave onlookers in a sense of awe. The best time to visit the Iguazu Falls is during April and May. However, September and October also provide for favourable viewing.

Perito Moreno Glacier

One of the greatest attractions of Argentina and most certainly one of the greatest natural wonders of the world is the Perito Moreno Glacier. Situated in southern Argentina’s Patagonia region, this thunderous blue-green stretch of pristine ice leaves visitors at a loss of words.

The glacier is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is located in Los Glaciares National Park outside the small town of El Calafate. It stretches over 30 km and provides for one of the largest freshwater reserves in the world.

Ushuaia

Located in the southernmost tip of Argentina, Ushuaia is literally the end of road. This is where land meets water and it’s the “end of the world.” Originally inhabited by the indigenous tribe called Yamana, Ushuaia had a population of mere 113 men and 36 women.

Later in 1896 Ushuaia was declared a penal town where convicts were sent to prison. Present Ushuaia though is a mere shadow of its scary past. This quaint town on Beagle Channel has a lot to offer. It is the meeting point of several diverse landscapes of mountains, beaches, forests and glaciers.

Visited Thailand (Bangkok & Phuket) with my family in January 2024 through this tour operating company. They prepared a customised itinerary for us, booked our hotels at both locations and arranged all associated transportation and sight-seeing tours. We had an enjoyable trip. Both hotels were good. The tours and transportation too were good and very well arranged by their local tour partners. They had created an Whatsapp group for close monitoring of our tour, which was very effective and assuring. Many thanks to the Flying Squirrel Holidays team !
